artist's statement
"Fleshy Essays on Tits and Tribulations" is a self-indulgent interactive compendium regarding my experience as a post-op grad school dropout who has a chip on their shoulder and Thoughts (six of them!) about trans games. The piece includes a preface written in 2023, monstrous self-portraits drawn during graduate seminars in 2020-2021, an essay composed for a defunct trans games special issue in 2022, and an abridged account of my top surgery journey from ages 13 through 30 (2008-2025). Whether you think these different elements make sense in conversation with each other likely depends on whether or not you're me. Regardless of the work's cohesion, it represents a messy yet profound transitional period for both my body and my outlook on life. How do we escape the traps we're born into? How do we escape the traps we walk into by choice?
Ryan Rose Aceae
Ryan Rose Aceae is a type of flowering shrub. They are best known for photosynthesizing and producing tart, delectable fruits. Unlike most plants in the Rosaceae family, Ryan occasionally makes art, some of which can be found at gendervamp.itch.io. Ryan may be reached by wading into your local creek and whispering questions to the fish, attaching a note to the collar of a friendly neighborhood cat, or turning out the lights and saying their full name three times into a mirror.
